So recently I was going through my closet and looking at all of things I own. I realized that I have a shit ton of things with tags still on them, and some things that don’t have tags, but have been worn a maximum of once. It dawned on me that the items in my closet with tags still on them are things that I bought impulsively, or didn’t bother to try on, but bought anyways. I started to realized what a waste of money it is to just be buying something because it looks cute on the hanger. I’ve religiously started only buying clothing if I’ve a) tried it on, b) it looks amazing and c) it makes me feel fabulous. I’ve also realized as of late, that coming into my mid-ish twenties, I’m so over only owning cheap stuff from Forever21 and stores alike. Not to say that I still don’t love places like Forever21, and H&M, but we all know that the clothes they make, quality wise, aren’t enough to last an entire season. I think when you’re on such a budget, it can be so easy to get lost in the world of quantity over quality. I’ve been perusing the internet and doing research on what it is that every woman should have in her closet, and although there were a lot of variations from list to list, I compiled my own list, and made one that is the most appropriate for my age and taste.
- Black blazer
- Black leather jacket (PU/Genuine leather)
- Denim jacket
- Classic trench coat
- Wool coat
- White button down blouse
- Striped shirt
- Basic tees in black, white & grey
- Leopard print scarf
- Little black dress
- Black opaque tights
- Oversized watch
- Statement necklace
- A good pair of sunglasses
- Perfect dark wash jeans (any fit, according to what makes you feel your best)
- Red flats
- Nude pumps
- Black pumps
- Black trousers
- Black skirt
- A nice bra
- Pretty PJ’s
- A tote
- A great neutral coloured handbag
- A good planner/agenda
Because my birthday is around the corner, you can bet I’ve asked for a bunch of stuff from this list, with specifics as to which stores to shop at. The fact that these items are supposed to last a long time, I’ve been really looking at quality, name brand, and whether or not I absolutely love the piece when I try it on. I just really want to create a wardrobe that has a lot of quality, with items that I can wear for years to come!

I bought these booties thinking that Spring was around the corner… We still have tons of snow, it’s still freezing out and we’re coming up on the end of March. Someday soon, hopefully. It would be really nice to show these new babies off! They’re roomy, and despite being a couple of inches, they’re comfy and they’re faux leather and have a studding around the ankle dip!
Even though I should be focusing on purging old cosmetics, clothing and shoes for Spring, I am not. I’m just adding to the already large pile of stuff that I own. When I do get around to sorting my life out, I will definitely blog about it and include photos. For now, I’m excited about some cute little things I’ve picked up (courtesy of the boyfriend). Starting from the left:
- Orange lipstick in ‘SIREN’ by Revlon
- Pastel pink nail polish in ‘PINK & PROPER’ by Maybelline (Color Show line)
- Dark green nail polish in ‘WALK IN THE PARK’ by Maybelline (Color Show line)
- Grey nail polish in ‘PIED A TERRE’ by Cake (Coco + Lulu line)
- Red nail polish in ‘LEFT BANK’ by Cake (Coco + Lulu line)
I now have an orange lipstick that was around $7.00 and a pastel nail polish. I can check those off of my ‘must haves’ for Spring list!
I picked out the dark green nail polish, not because it’s in for Spring or because I need more nail polish, but because I’ve been looking for a dark green nail polish that isn’t practically black. I love the Color Show nail polishes because they’re like, $3.00 at Walmart and they have so many shades. As for the Coco + Lulu lacquers… I don’t even know. Grey is such a good color in general. I love grey everything, grey shoes, grey clothing, grey purses, the walls in my room are grey. The red nail polish is just this rich, bright red. It quite possibly may be the holy grail of red nail polishes, plus I got both these colors on sale for $3.00 each, originally $8.00.
Despite thinking that orange lipstick (Siren – Revlon) would be hideous on my lips and against my skin tone, I actually love this color. I tried really hard to have the color come through as true as possible in the above photos, so I didn’t play with lighting or filters. You can blame my webcam for the the quality of the picture on the right.
My boyfriend bought me this gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff purse online, just under two weeks ago. It finally came two days ago and It’s even prettier than I expected. I’ve wanted a designer purse since forever, but I’ve never actually taken the time to put money aside and then spend it all, on one really nice item. My boyfriend has always spoiled me rotten (to the best of his means, obviously) but this one gift, officially takes the cake (so far). I’m sure my engagement ring will trump any and every one of his gifts to me 😉
Getting this purse, and just seeing and feeling the quality of a well made purse makes me so happy. It gives me this whole new appreciation for designer bags. I obviously would love a closet full of designer everything, but I’m not rich… Hah.
I chose to get this purse in a nude, just because it’s neutral and will probably go with almost everything I own in terms of clothing and shoes. It’s also the size of a sheet of loose leaf, so it’s big enough to fit the essentials, but small enough that I don’t feel like I’m lugging it around, when I carry it.
It was originally $295.00, but was on sale for $205.00. With shipping (to Canada), it totalled around $220.00, making it the most expensive bag I own so far, so it’s safe to say that I should probably stay away from designer purse sales, and out of the purse aisles in the department stores. I’ve worn it out once since it’s arrival, and I absolutely adore it. If you’re anything like me, you know how one item can make you feel like a superstar. This purse does that for me. Comment or like if you own any items that make you feel super special!
Also, don’t tell my boyfriend, but I’ve had my eye on this beautiful Kate Spade bag… Perhaps for my birthday in June?
Claremont Drive Marcella – $239.00 (USD)
After reading the March 2014 magazine issues of InStyle, PeopleStyleWatch & Glamour, I’ve taken my “research” and made a list of the things that are going to be “In For Spring”! (It is coming, Canada! YAYYY)
I basically want this list as a guide for what I should be buying for Spring. So in no particular order:
- Orange Lipstick
- Denim Jacket
- Striped Dress
- Flowy Pants
- White Jacket
- Flippy Skirt
- Florals (For Spring? How original.)
- Modern Chokers
- Crop tops & Skirts
- Perforated Leather
- D’orsay Flats
- Bucket Bags
- Oxford Button-Down
- Modern Boho
I’ll be posting pictures of the items that I buy as I get them. My goal is not only to attain as many of these items for Spring as I can, but to do it on my not-so-extensive budget! Shout out to the broke girls who love to shop!
Just as a side note; there are always going to be things that come into trend that may not always flatter your body type, and just because it’s in, don’t go out and buy ten of them, that’s a waste of money and you’ll feel silly wearing something you hate.
Also, I used the Polyvore site to make those awesome images up top! http://www.polyvore.com/
