More lifestyle change/eating plan stuff

I feel like I haven’t blogged in a really long time, but it’s only been 6 days.

So after I finished the first cycle of the 17 Day Diet, I decided that I would go on and blog about the second cycle immediately after. That didn’t happen. From the moment I finished cycle 1, up until about this past Saturday, I’ve been indulging like it’s going out of style. Granted, I did try to eat as healthy as possible the past week, every single time someone has presented me with some sort of dessert, or something deep fried, I gladly accepted. Yesterday I had a breakthrough and realized that I didn’t want to undo all my hard work during cycle 1 of the 17 Day Diet, so I should probably stop stuffing my face with crap, and just eat healthy and workout. So yesterday, that is what I did. I started with day 1 of the second cycle, and I just thought I would let everyone know that I’m only going to blog about my journey through the second cycle every couple of days. And again, to keep peoples interest I will be posting ‘after’ pictures at the end of cycle 2! Yayyy!

Anyways, blogging every couple of days will leave me more time to blog about more interesting things… Like clothes, and makeup, and nails!

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 17


So, as promised, I’m posting my ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots today! But first, here’s my review for yesterday, which was day 17/the last day of the first cycle.

I’m going to go into too much detail right now about my body… So every month when my period comes, I get INSANE cramps. They’re so bad that I break out into cold sweats, I feel like I’m going to throw up, and sometimes the pain is so bad that I feel like I’m going to pass out. It only started getting this bad when I was 17… I’m currently 22 years old. I just suffered for years thinking that I could tough it out, or pray that the next month would be better. I finally went to the doctor two months ago and was prescribed Tylenol 3’s, Buscopan, and Naproxen. The Tylenol 3’s help with the nausea and headaches and just general pain. The Buscopan is to slow the rhythmic contractions in the stomach area, and it reduces muscle spasms. The Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory drug that is helping to reduce the inflammation in my uterus… obviously. These three in conjunction have worked wonderfully. I got my period yesterday and only took one of each of the pills and they lasted all day. Today I took one of each again and I’m feeling good. The relevance of all this TMI is that I’m not supposed to take these pills on an empty stomach, and when I’m on my period, certain foods just turn me off completely, even foods that I normally love. So I just wanted to explain why my eating pattern, and food choices for yesterday were so weird. So onto less gross things…

Yesterday I woke up, had green tea, ate carrots and tzatziki sauce, and microwave popcorn. I thought about eating poached eggs, but the thought of eating eggs made my stomach churn. I took my pills for the first time yesterday and was in a panic about whether or not they would work. Within an hour, I felt like I was having a normal period for the first time in 6 years. So far, so good (:

I didn’t feel like I could eat lunch, so I didn’t.

I didn’t workout because the pills just made me feel tired. My body was relaxed and I just wanted to be cozy in bed. So, that’s what I did. I stayed in bed and started watching Bates Motel (which I’m now OBSESSED with) until I had to get ready for work. I eventually got up and showered and went to work. For dinner at work I had a small, completely plain, piece of baked fish. I also ate frozen mangoes, strawberries, and peach yogurt. That seemed to be enough to satisfy me. At 9:30PM, I finished work and was starving, so my boyfriend took me to Subway to get a chicken breast salad. It was a variety of vegetables, chicken breast, pepper, and oregano. I never get cheese or sauce/dressing on my Subway salads. So I ate my salad, had a tiny bite of a cookie and had a couple of sips of my boyfriends iced tea. When I got home I had a bite of a pork chop filet. So that concluded my eating for the final day of the first cycle. Not horrible, but not exactly perfect.

I’ve decided to continue on with the second cycle of the 17 Day Diet! Yay! You all get to read more posts about my lack of will power when it comes to Chinese food and cookies! Thanks for following me on the first 17 days of this eating plan, and thanks for not being JUDGEY!

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 15

Uh Oh! Two days left!

It’s safe to say that I had more bad days than good following this eating plan, but I’m not upset. I’ve just come to realize that any type of lifestyle change is going to have it’s bad/horrible days, and there are gonna be some days where you just get it completely right. Last night, after blogging, I was Googling ’17 Day Diet’ reviews, and I was completely enlightened by some of the stuff I had read from other people who had done, or are still doing the 17 Day Diet. So many people raved that by the end of the fourth cycle, they were practically eating whatever they wanted (with a few limitations, according to the book) and were STILL losing weight or maintaining their weight, happily. I read that one person had lost a full 17 pounds doing the first cycle of the book. Another person who had done the four cycles, was down almost 50 pounds, and was looking to re-start the diet to lose a bit more!

To recap my day, for breakfast, I ate two poached eggs, carrot sticks with a bit of tzatziki sauce, and yogurt with strawberries and chia seeds.

Worked out for 20 minutes on the Bowflex, ate cauliflower rice, baked chicken and baked fish for lunch.

For dinner, I had a lot of chicken stir fry, and some sauteed beef (<– beef isn’t allowed in the first cycle. Whoops).

My eating was pretty simple today. I didn’t really snack in between meals because I didn’t feel the need to. Of course I’ve got two nearly perfect days in a row, near the end of the first cycle. Here’s to the next two days! WISH ME LUCK! I’m going to need it!

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 14

Blogging a little early today. I guess to make up for being late on all my weekend posts.

So right now nearly marks the end of day 14! So exciting. My eating today was exceptional. I tried really hard knowing that I have to post ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos in a matter of days.

This morning for breakfast, I ate two poached eggs, spinach, strawberries and yogurt. I worked out for 20 minutes on the Bowflex.

For lunch I had cauliflower rice, steamed broccoli and baked fish. I ate an apple and a yogurt cup as a snack between lunch and dinner.

For dinner I had riceless sushi again! SOOO GOOD!!! I also had a miso soup and salmon sashimi. I completely forgot to take a picture of my amazing sushi, even though I really wanted to. It will not be the last time I order this exact same sushi roll, so I will for sure take a picture of it the next time I order it.

I doubt I’ll be doing anymore eating for today, so I’m going to assume that I’ll be ending this day on a really good note. If I do consume anything it’ll be a piece of fruit, a yogurt cup, some raw veggies or some tea.

I started researching ‘make your own riceless sushi’ on Google and Youtube, and there are so many easy, healthy variations. It’s obviously unrealistic for me to continue buying these riceless rolls over and over again. As much as I’d love to, I’d go broke. I will definitely be blogging a how to post on how to make your own riceless sushi soon!

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 6

Yayyyyy! Day 6! 11 days left! 

So I should probably mention that I did take some ‘before’ photos on the morning of day 1. They’re not fun to look at and I’m kind of embarrassed about them… That being said, I do have over a week left to really do this thing.

I feel extremely good about today! I had a super healthy, and according-to-the-book breakfast. I worked out for just over THIRTY minutes today, because apparently, I was just having a day where I felt strong, and capable. I ate a spinach salad with grilled chicken, half an avocado (I don’t think avocados are allowed during the first cycle though. Ooopsies), and half a cup of greek yogurt. For supper I had an oven roasted chicken breast salad from subway with all the vegetables, no dressing and no cheese. I also drank a million litres of tea and water (:

So there you have it folks! My first 100% successful day of The 17 Day Diet! Today has made me realize that even though some days are shit, you have days where you hit it out of the park. Here’s to tomorrow being amazing too! 

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 5

Hey guys! This is my review for day 5!

I started strong today! I woke up and had my lemon tea, a poached egg, a spinach salad, some greek yogurt with blueberries, mangoes and chia seeds.

I worked out for 20 minutes on the Bowflex, showered, then had chicken breast for lunch.

I bombed supper time completely… Sad/guilty face. I went to an East Indian restaurant with the boyfriend and we ordered a rice stir fry that had lamb, shrimp, chicken and some vegetables mixed in, butter chicken, whole wheat naan bread and mozzarella naan bread. Of course their entrees came with basmati rice. I did have a little bit of everything, and despite being proud of controlling the portions I ate tonight, I still ate the rice and the bread. Today’s supper has been the one meal that’s gone against the rules the absolute most.

I feel like it’s wrong to develop the mentality that you should workout to eat, or eat to workout, because then you just end up feeling guilty if you eat too much and don’t work out, or workout really hard and treat yourself to something that isn’t necessarily healthy. Regardless, I came home and did some light cardio for an hour to make up for my feasting. Tomorrow I’ll wake up and do better! Thanks for the continued support! HUGS.

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 3

Day 3 (March 13th) practically down. Virtual high five to all the people following my 17 day struggle.

My eating was not the greatest today. I woke up fairly early and spent all morning looking at blogs, and when I finally did get out of bed, I had lots of tea, an apple and some yogurt with chia seeds. No protein in my breakfast ):

I met up with a girlfriend downtown for more tea and a bit of shopping, which allowed me to walk around and just move in general. I tried on a billion things like I always do, which to me, is a workout in itself.

After shopping, I came home to a package from Rebecca Minkoff!!! A post of what was in the package, will follow shortly (:

I technically did not eat lunch today, which I know is horrible. I skipped that entire meal completely and went straight to dinner. TSK TSK. Because it was my brothers birthday, I was out for dinner with my brother, my boyfriend, my mom, moms boyfriend, and my aunt. I ordered baked salmon, steamed vegetables and a tossed salad… It really is as exciting and delicious as it sounds. No it’s not. Everyone around me ate fries, steaks, or burgers. My brother ended up getting a complimentary, birthday brownie which I had a bite of, don’t judge me. I also ate 3 boneless, honey garlic wings, which I practically made love to because they were so good… AND I had like 10 restaurant mints.

So… brownie, wings and mints (aka candy). Not particularly proud of todays eating. I also did not do my required 17 minutes of exercise, but I was walking around a lot while shopping, and since getting home from dinner, I’ve been doing loads of laundry which need to be hauled up and down 2 flights of stairs, among other house chores.

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day for working out and for eating. Also, since all these birthday festivities are over, I can stop being mentally harassed by different cakes.

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 2

This review is for Day 2 (March 12th)
Today went surprisingly well. All my meals were according to the plan and I managed to work out on our Bowflex Treadclimber for 20 minutes.

My day went like this:
▪ I woke up and had a good breakfast
▪ I watched Pretty Little Liars, which by the way, makes me roll my eyes more and more each episode, that I think they may one day, roll into the back of my head and get stuck there. The plot gets more stupid every week, but I’m still watching. Anyways, I also prepared lunch which was baked fish and vegetables.
▪ Walked on the Bowflex for 20 minutes
▪ Got ready for work.
▪ Worked from 4:30 – 9:30PM
▪ Got home. At this point (roughly 10:15PM on March 12th) my brothers birthday was close enough (He turned 21 today – March 13th) that he told me to make an exception and eat his Rice Krispies cake with him. I refused, even though I wanted nothing more than any excuse to eat cake. Sad. As soon as I said no, I realized how accountable this blog was keeping me, it was kind of blowing my mind a little bit.
▪ I went to my boyfriends soccer game at 11:00PM
▪ Around midnight, after his game was over, we went to Walmart to pick up fruits and vegetables
▪ Closer to 1:00AM we went to Subway so we could eat. I ate a chicken salad, with no dressing and no cheese (so exciting…), even though what I really wanted was a foot-long bacon sandwich, slathered in mayo. Regardless of my healthy choice though, I’m pretty sure it’s still against the rules to be up at 1:00AM, eating.

Now it’s 2:00AM, and I’m blogging about my average day. I’m exhausted, and I’m not really looking forward to waking up and doing it all over again tomorrow. I just want a pizza. I’ll try to be more interesting in my day 3 post, and maybe include pictures for future review days.

The 17 Day Diet Review – Day 1

So today was the first day of my 17 day journey. 16 more to go.

I ate according to the book, except for one chicken finger. Shame on me. My dad showed up at my house shortly after supper, and proceeded to take me to some hole in the wall, Chinese restaurant, downtown. I picked through the chow mein that he INSISTED on ordering, and only ate the broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and chicken. No breads, pastas or rice for this girl.

My dad looks at me like I’ve lost my mind anytime I’m trying to eat healthy, or if I say no to chocolate. He always tells me that I don’t need to drop a single pound. Like, thanks dad, next you’re going to tell me that I’m the prettiest girl in the world (bless his soul).

Other than that one chicken finger, everything was pretty good today. I woke up, had a good breakfast, ate chicken breast, and vegetables for lunch and dinner. Drank water all day, had green tea, had chamomile tea AND, I exercised for 20 minutes rather than just 17 minutes. Where’s my gold medal?

The 17 Day Diet Review

This is literally the ONE eating plan that I swear by.

With Spring practically here, I’m automatically thinking of what I’m going to do about the lack of clothing that comes with Summer. I also LOVE the beach, but feeling even slightly insecure puts a damper on me soaking up the sun.

The 17 Day Diet is split up into four cycles of 17 days each. Each cycle has a wide range of foods that you’re allowed to eat. This book does not tell you to eat a cube of cheese and drink 3 glasses of water, wait thirty minutes and then as a treat you get to eat ice chips for 17 days, and voila, you’re skinny. You don’t starve on this diet, I promise!

I’ve done the first cycle of this diet a total of 1.9 times… It’s almost twice because the second time I lasted the first 15 days and then I went on a road trip to the states, and it was hello fast food and juicy steaks and goodbye self-control. Anyways the first time I did it, I did not weigh myself either before or after. I had this messed up notion in my head that even if I did lose 10-17 pounds, I still would not be satisfied, so instead of focusing on the number, I went off of how I felt 17 days later. On top of some dudes at work telling me that I looked like I had “put in work” at the gym (this book tells you to exercise for 17 minutes a day), I felt good. My insides felt clean, and I literally felt like I was more mobile.

If you have any qualms about my doing this diet, or what more it entails, or how you think it’s super unhealthy for someone to lose such a “significant” amount of weight in such a short time, GO READ THE BOOK! I’m not even telling you to buy it. Go to your library and see if they have it, or borrow it from your sexy, slim friend.

I’m starting the first cycle of this eating plan tomorrow, which is technically today because I’m blogging so late. Anyways, Tuesday, March 11th 2014 will be counted as day 1. I keep telling myself that because I have to blog about my attempt to shed some weight, I’ll have to be accountable, therefore more successful… LOL. We will just have to see. I’ll keep everyone posted from day to day about how much it kills me to prepare actual food, and if everyone is nice, I might even weigh myself and take ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures and post those too!
